7-Zip lists Windows Shell integration, a file manager and a command-line version. It can create and extract several formats, including ZIP and 7z, but some listed formats such as RAR are extraction-only. Reading an archive format does not mean the program can create that format.
PeaZip offers a graphical archive manager for Linux, macOS and Windows, using open-source components including 7-Zip technology. Its appeal is a similar interface across supported systems. Check the package for your operating system and architecture rather than assuming every download runs on every device.
For a Windows desktop workflow, 7-Zip is a direct candidate; for a graphical workflow across operating systems, consider PeaZip. Both choices still require a format decision. Send a small sample to the recipient and confirm extraction with their actual software, especially when using encryption.
7-Zip documents AES-256 support in 7z and ZIP formats, while PeaZip also documents encryption features. That is not a YNIX security audit or evidence that every archive is encrypted by default. This documentation comparison assigns no speed or compression winner; choose explicit settings and test reopening before deleting originals.
